не запускается KDE(3.5.5)

при запуске xdm стартуют иксы, появляется черный экран с курсором, потом вываливается в консоль
иксы сами по себе работают
пробовал emerge -e kde

Узнать можно с помощью equery, скорее всего это ошмётки от старых установок.

Kdm Вам ясно говорит, что мол krootimage: cannot connect to X server :0. А чтобы узнать что это значит Вам нужно посмотреть логи /var/log/Xorg.0.log и /var/log/kdm.log

/var/log/kdm.log в корневом сообщении
в /var/log/Xorg.0.log ничего не вижу... может подскажете?
