Черный экран
Установил Gentoo-2007.
После запуска #startx или #kdm появляется черный экран и выйти из этого состояния можно только Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
Подскажите пожайлуста в чем может быть причина и как исправить?

У меня стоит карточка NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT.
x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers - конечно же установил.
Твой конф мне ничем не помог и пока стою на том же месте.

Поставь VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia vesa"
Ессно xorg-server пересобрать нада будет
и Driver="vesa" - заработает, будет куда дальше копать

Добавил в make.conf параметр vesa - VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia vesa", сделал #emerge xorg-server, результат тот же.
Есть у кого еще предложения?

Все ставил с минимал CD ручками. Видео настраивал по "Руководство по видеокартам nVidia в Gentoo Linux" с www.gentoo.org

Файл xorg.conf использую после автоматич. его генерации # Xorg -configure. Соответственно при запуске # X -config /root/xorg.conf.new как и при запуске #startx или #kdm вылетает черный экран.
Может есть еще способы как-то узнать в чем дело?

Весь трабл в дровах
8500 GT говоришь?
у меня 8600GTS. проблема в том что поддержка только в последних дровах появилась.
рассказываю по порядку.
качаешь последние дрова с сайта nvidia.(нет в портаджах)
копируешь nvidia-drivers-***.ebuild, меняя номер версии на ту что скачал.
ebuild nvidia-drivers-точто-сделали.ebuild digest
emerge nvidia-drivers
готовься к тому что не в графических консолях изображение поедет.
а так Х пашут без проблем.

Пугающий черный экран
Судя по симптомам - знакомая ситуацией =) Х при запуске вываливаются в черный экран, а Xorg.0.log видимых ошибок нет. Пользователей радеонов в ноутбуках, как в моем случае, выручает определение:
Option "MonitorLayout" "LVDS, NONE" в Device section в xorg.conf
Незнаю насколько полезна эта информация в вашем случае, но моежет для кого она окажется полезной.
З.Ы. в свое время этим черным экраном меня ужасно порадовал gentoo livecd, когда я выберал - что бы такого поставить на свой новенький ноут ))
Аналогчная проблема - черный экран и все тут
в общем ноут Toshiba Sattelite U300.
Поставил систему, потом Xorg-x11. В конце было одно замечание, что до сих пор не включена мышь, т.е тачпад. Далее следует предложение протестить сконфигурированный файл.
Запускаю и вижу черный экран. Никакой реакции. Приходится вырубать питание.
Прописывал вручную в xorg инфу по тачпаду:

Вообщем, "поигрался" с параметрами в xorg.conf, startx больше не выдает черный экран. Но теперь пишет, что отсутствует монитор и мышь.
